On Friday, June 4, 2010, a 42-year-old bicycle rider was killed on Southern Avenue SE in Washington D.C. David Haywood Williams was pronounced dead at Prince George’s Hospital Center at 11:38 Friday night.
Mr. Williams was riding in the 1400 block of Southern Avenue SE when he was hit by not one, but two different cars. The first car has been identified as a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban. The driver left the scene of the accident, but later returned and told police that he did not realize that he had hit anyone. The driver of the Suburban has not been identified.
After the Suburban hit Mr. Williams, and before bystanders could come to his aid, he was hit by another vehicle. The witnesses called 911 and emergency personnel were called to the accident scene. As the paramedics arrived, however, the driver of the second car left the scene of the accident. Police are searching for a dark blue compact car, probably a Nissan or a Toyota. Two passengers are believed to have been in that car at the time of the accident.
It is unclear whether Mr. Williams was alive after the first accident or whether he could have survived those injuries. We extend our sympathies to Mr. Williams’ family and friends during this difficult time.
