A teenager who was in critical condition after a Virginia car crash last week has succumbed to his injuries, authorities say.
18-year-old Carlos Hernandez of Falls Church was riding in the back seat of a 2001 Honda Accord when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Just after midnight on January 2, the car left the roadway and struck a tree in the 2900 block of Graham Road near Rice Street. Hernandez was ejected from the vehicle.
Fairfax County Police reported that Hernandez was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital with multiple blunt force injuries, where he died five days later.
“Police have not placed any charges but are continuing to investigate,” authorities said in a statement released Friday.
Detectives and experts from the Crash Reconstruction Unit have been on the scene of the crash, and have reason to believe speed could have been a factor in the accident. Authorities have not confirmed whether Hernandez or the driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Police urge anyone with information about the accident to contact Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
The attorneys and staff at Shevlin Smith wish to extend their condolences to the family and friends of this young man, and hope that everyone stays safe on the roadways in the coming year.
