Truck Accident Proves Fatal in Tyson’s Corner at Rush Hour

Posted on Jan 16, 2012

Eastbound Route 7 was reduced to one lane Monday afternoon after a fatal car crash in Fairfax County.
According to Fairfax County police, 59-year-old Dale City resident Kil Sun Flom was headed eastbound on Leesburg Pike near Spring Hill Road in an Acura TL. Witnesses say Flom was merging from the right lane to the center lane when she was struck by a petroleum pumper truck with Maryland license plates.
The left-hand side of Flom’s vehicle was smashed in, and her car was wedged between the right-hand curb and the pumper truck. Flom then got out of her vehicle and made her way toward the truck, which was still moving with the flow of traffic. Police say Flom was below the truck driver’s line of sight, and she was struck by the pumper truck.
The truck driver, a 39-year-old man from College Park, MD, gave a statement to police along with two other men from the petroleum company. Flom, the sole occupant of the Acura, died at the scene.
Fairfax County detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit worked late into the evening to recreate the accident. The Motor Carrier Safety Unit and Crime Scene detectives also occupied the scene near Spring Hill Road until nearly 9:00 p.m.
No charges have been made against the truck driver, but the accident remains under investigation.
