Late last month, a medical malpractice complaint was filed against Dr. George M. Craft. Dr. Craft is an obstetrician and gynecologist at Winchester Women’s Specialists in Winchester.
The complainant, Amy Welton, alleges that she sought prenatal care from Dr. Craft in 2008 and 2009. Ms. Welton claims that she had a risky pregnancy because she was forty-one years old at the time of conception and had gestational diabetes.
When she had her final prenatal appointment in August 2009, Ms. Welton alleges that she told Dr. Craft that she felt decreased fetal movements, and that her blood pressure was elevated, but that Dr. Craft failed to perform any tests or procedures to assess the well-being of the baby.
Two days later, Ms. Welton was admitted to the hospital for her scheduled C-Section. At that time, it was determined that the fetus had died.
Ms. Welton’s lawsuit alleges that the doctor was negligent in his care of her. Specifically, the complaint alleges that the doctor failed to diagnose Ms. Welton’s risk factors, failed to perform necessary assessments of the fetus, and failed to properly monitor Ms. Welton in the final stages of pregnancy.
We extend our sympathy to Ms. Welton for the loss of her child.
