Fairfax County Crash Leaves Six Seriously Injured

Two vehicles were involved in an accident along Pleasant Valley Road in Chantilly, Virginia. According to Fairfax County police, A Ford Escort and a Toyota Corolla collided head-on just before 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2013.

The accident closed Pleasant Valley Road between Braddock Road and Jillians Forest Way for several hours as police investigated the crash. The road closure caused the traffic to back up for a few miles on Pleasant Valley Road.

According to police reports, the Escort, driven by a 24-year-old Gainesville woman, crossed over the median and struck the Corolla. The Toyota Corolla was driven by a 57-year-old resident of Centreville.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue reported that six people were injured in the accident, including one child. The two most critically injured were transported via helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital. The other four were transported in ambulances to Inova as well. All had serious injuries.

Emergency personnel stated that five of the victims were in critical condition but were unsure about the condition of the sixth.

It is unknown what caused the Ford Escort to cross the median. Police are still investigating the accident.
